You’re Engaged – Now What! 5 Tips On What To Do Once You Have A Ring On It!

YOU ARE ENGAGED!!

It’s such an exciting and surreal feeling! I remember when I got engaged, I kept thinking – IS THIS REAL LIFE!

YES. YES it it – so celebrate – Holy Moley – YOU HAVE A RING ON IT!

So now what?

Do you call all your family and friends, make your secret Pinterest board public, start to email all your dream vendors?!

Let me stop you right there- savour this moment! I’m not saying not do all of the above this is your time so do you boo, but I do think it’s important to take it slow and really enjoy and be present because, word from the wise, it all goes by so fast!

Here are my tips for what to do after you get engaged and, when you’re ready, how to start planning!

1. CELEBRATE YOUR WAY

Do something together just the two of you. Whether that’s going out for a really nice dinner, doing an activity you both enjoy or simply cracking a bottle of bubbly at home and basking in the feeling of being freshly engaged!

There is no rule book on how you are supposed to announce this either. Some couples like to keep it secret for the first 24 hours, others call their family and friends immediately or post on social media! Whatever you do just remember – this is the beginning of YOUR life together!

2. TALK ABOUT YOUR VISION AND NON-NEGOTIABLES

What does that mean? It means planning your wedding your way – by discussing what you both value most and what your non-negotiables are. Do you want an intimate sunset wedding on the beach or do you want a big celebration with all your people that lasts the whole day! Breakfast for dinner or maybe a brunch wedding? Or maybe you want to run away somewhere just the two of you. Really open up about your wants for this day and get on the same page! Sit down and talk about budget, guest size, priorities and your overall vision.

3. CHOOSE A DATE

This falls under the second tip but I thought I would highlight it further. The most desirable wedding dates, vendors and venues get booked really far in advance so if you are wanting to do-the-damn-thing in the next year or two, – I would suggest thinking about dates now. Determine what works best for your non-negotiables, discuss any conflicts and go from there.

4. RESEARCH

Research is so important – make sure you know exactly what to expect with all your vendors and your venue. It can feel overwhelming (I know I felt overwhelmed) but it’s important to ask all your questions and you do your research.

5.FRANKY SAYS RELAX!

Wedding planning can be stressful no matter how you plan – but there are ways to reduce the stress and really enjoy the process. Start by taking as much time as you need to, and enjoy the period of being engaged.  Let this next chapter of your lives sink in before it’s gone.
